Middle East - North AfricaOn 15 August, 2017, Pre-Trial Chamber I issued a warrant of arrest for Mr Mahmoud Mustafa Busayf Al-Werfalli. Mr Al-Werfalli, a commander in the Libyan National Army (LNA), is alleged to have directly committed and ordered the commission of murder as a war crime in the context of seven incidents, involving 33 persons, in Benghazi and the surrounding areas. The crimes are alleged to have taken place on or before 3 June 2016 until on or about 17 July 2017. Recent news reports indicate that the suspect has been arrested by the general command of the LNA, but it is unclear as to whether or not Mr. Al-Werfalli will be handed over to the ICC.
