The African Francophone Coalitions for the ICC published their statement on the recent US sanction threats against the ICC.

For some time, the Office of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) has been working on human rights violations of US soldiers in Afghanistan. In order to prevent this investigation, the United States of America intends to sanction the ICC, its staff and partners involved in this case.

The ICC, with international jurisdiction, was established by almost all United Nations member states to fight impunity and crimes that shatter human conscience.

To do so, texts are adopted to grant the Court privileges and to allow its judges to work in peace.

The current threats to the ICC which translate the interests of certain States question the very fight against impunity and the rights of victims are being violated.

The African Francophone Coalitions are concerned about this setback in terms of respect for human rights and above all for international justice and take this opportunity to remind all States of their moral obligation to protect and provide justice for the victims of serious crimes.

The African Francophone Coalitions for the ICC, which one of its missions is the promotion of the fight against impunity and the promotion of victims' rights, call on all States Parties and non-States Parties to support the Court's actions; by cooperating, in order to facilitate the prosecution of alleged criminals and to put an end to impunity no matter who the perpetrator is. This is the sole guarantee of a world of justice and peace.
